Clairefontaine mediaeval and historical site

On this site, archaeologists have unearthed the remains of a mediaeval house and priory and the ruins of an ancient abbey, whose history is echoed in the furnishings and stained-glass windows of the nineteenth-century Neo-Romanesque chapel, in whose crypt is the tomb of Countess Ermesinde. Next to the stele which commemorates the counts’ tombs is the holy spring of St Bernard. Guided visits in English for groups by prior appointment only.
